Back in the studio the “play” series is undergoing a tranformation with 3 new sizes and some plain contrasting interiors.  The brief is to make they play series just a little more playful!

We have been busy making molds as well as a little DIY machinery making to transform trimmings and waste clay into slip…

A little color therapy…

Now I’m not into luxury goods ….. but color … that’s a different story. So in Hong Kong late December it was easy to indulge in a little color therapy….

More than the sum of its parts

Well the year is drawing to a close, and I have taught my last class for a while. The evening beginners class has been fun. We ended the term by exhibiting our work in the Library Foyer. This is only part of the work which filled a cabinet and was made up of contributions from all the class members.

Titled “spring colors”, we experimented with both porcelain and a buff raku clay for the contrast between the delicate and the rough clays.

Sometimes the means to an end is more important than the end

The Melbourne Design Market was looking or people to collaborate with the Melbourne Citymission to create some fundraising opportunities. I offered to make some porcelain take away cups with input from them on the designs that they could then sell at the market.

So I worked with  their VCAL students on some designs for the exterior of the cups. We had a workshop. This was pretty relaxed. Pens, paper and a few hours was all it took.

In he end we filled some sheets of paper with ideas and little drawings. I took them back to the studio to scan. Sized and adjusted and ready to go I sent print ready files to my printer  the Decal Specialist- who donated the printing.

My expectation was just to give it a go.. and to make it as simple and exercise as possible. The designs did not have to be complicated or clever. The beakers sold quickly which was wonderful. For my part it was a good way to contribute something.

A new coffee collaboration

It’s been a busy week and in between flying visits to Canberra and Adelaide I have finished a batch of new cups for Craft Victoria. A collaboration with Jeweller Katherine Bowman, making this product has given me great satisfaction.

These are beautiful and I have to thank Craft Victoria and Katherine for that. This is the project that has encouraged me to pick up a fineliner and draw.
